- [Aug 2008] The editors (Rich and Charold Baer, (503) 246-3087) have about 2 tons of the PRS Fertilizer (15-10-10) and almost one ton of the 6-6-6 organic blend. If you are a new member of the rose society, or did not get enough this spring, please take advantage of this opportunity. (The PRS original blend is $19 for 40 pounds, $10 for 20 pounds and the
organic blend is $13 for 20 pounds.) Just call and let us know when you want to pick it up and we will try to accommodate your schedule.
There is also a smaller, but significant, supply of fertilizer at the home of Eilene Curtiss in Boring (503-668-4503).
If you would like to buy it at more convenient place but at a higher price, (nurseries do have overhead that our Rose Society members do not) you should be able to get PRS fertilizer at any of the following locations: Dennis 7 Dees, all locations, Portland Nursery, both locations, Gardeners’ Choice in Tigard, Lake Grove Garden Center, 2 locations, Rain or Shine, or at Concentrates.
All of the aforementioned also have the PRS organic blend as well as the original formulation.
Pear Hardware and Kasch’s Nurseries carry the original formulation but not the organic blend.

| Rose Calendar - - 2009 "Celebrating Roses" (updated 9/2/2008) |
- 2009 Rose Calendars PRS General Meetings are now available
- this year PRS produced our own calendars
- contact Charold Baer, 503-777-4311, for more information/to order
- They are beautiful and feature NW roses. You can have a dozen roses that will last all year and the cost is still only $10. We do have an ample supply at the current, time but we hope they will go fast.
- Get your orders in early to insure that you do not miss out. If you want them mailed to you the cost will be $13 for the first one and $11 for each additional calendar. If you order 10 or more, we will pay the postage. They make great gifts.
- This is another great fund raising project that will help with the Gold Award Garden and the financial health of our organization.

AARS WINNERS (All-American Rose Selections)
|

Dream Come True
2008 AARS Winner |
Dream Come True, 2008 AARS Winner
Dream Come True is a stunning sight of catchy colors, which lures the likes of even non-rose lovers to its side. This rose produces flawlessly formed yellow blossoms, blushed with ruby-red at the tips, all set amongst abundant matte green foliage. The big, bushy vigorous plant yields long-stemmed, long-lived blooms with mild tea fragrance, making it lovely in the landscape and a great choice for bouquets.
Dream Come True was hybridized by Dr. John Pottschmidt of Cincinnati, Ohio – only the 3rd amateur hybridizer to win the AARS Award in 67 years – and introduced by Weeks Roses of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.

Mardi Gras
2008 AARS Winner
|
Mardi Gras, 2008
AARS Winner
With flamboyant blooms in a novel blend of pink, orange, and yellow, and a delightful peppery scent, Mardi Gras creates a festive atmosphere in any setting. Each high-centered hybrid tea style bloom begins as an apricot-orange bud that slowly spirals open to reveal a 4-inch bright pink and orange bloom with a yellow base. As an All-America Rose Selections (AARS) winner, this festive floribunda has proven to perform exceptionally well across the country with little-to-no care. The colorful blooms are perfectly framed with dark green, semi-glossy foliage, and its upright columnar habit makes Mardi Gras an ideal rose to use as a hedge or in a border with mixed perennials.
Mardi Gras was hybridized by Keith Zary and is introduced by Jackson & Perkins Wholesale, Inc. of Medford, Ore.
